Come join us for lunch and learn how technology can be used to help adult learners prepare for the workforce. The Mayor’s Commission on Literacy, in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service, and Drexel University, seek tech-savvy individuals interested in an exciting volunteer opportunity called Tech Tutors.
Volunteer Tech Tutors help fellow Philadelphians develop their basic skills through the use of technology (e.g. computers, tablets, literacy software). Tech Tutors work with adult learners in a one-on-one or small cohort environment to address their educational and career goals using a variety of digital platforms. This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for passionate techies to demonstrate the myriad of ways technology can be used as a learning tool to support our city’s adult learners.
This event will feature a presentation on the different ways that technology can transform learning, including the characteristics of digital technologies that positively affect learning. Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from a panel of adult literacy coordinators about how they implement technology in instruction and the benefits they see, culminating in a roundtable discussion about how we can further incorporate technology into adult education instruction.
